Four Mile Old West Town Named for the stagecoach line, which was located 4 mi from the town of Custer, Four Mile Old West Town is an interactive, living history museum that invites patrons to touch their exhibits and features historic buildings, artifacts and more. Self-guided walking tours of the town are offered as well as group riding tours. The town is open from May to October, but tours can also be arranged in the off-season by appointment only. Bear Butte Visitor Center Bear Mountain is the Lakota name given to the unique formation at Bear Butte State Park. This mountain is sacred to many Native Americans, who see the area as a place where the creator has chosen to communicate with them through visions and prayer; they leave prayer cloths and tobacco ties on the trees as offerings to the creator. Mammoth Site of Hot Springs This museum was built over a mammoth excavation discovered in 1974. Over 52 animals have been recovered at this site that were buried for over 700 years.
