Held on the first weekend in June, this annual volksmarch is a 6.2 mi (10 km) hike up to the Crazy Horse Memorial mountain carving-in-progress. The annual Crazy Horse Volksmarch is the only time the public can hike to the carving, and the opportunity to get such a close-up view attracts up to 15,000 participants, making this event the most popular volksmarch in the US. The hike begins between 8am and 1pm each day and there is no advance registration.
